LIVE WHERE
YOU LOVE TO PLAY!
Live and work in a
friendly rural environment: Small towns with good schools and low
student-teacher ratios, outdoor recreation opportunities, and exceptional
people. We have four seasons the way they are supposed to be - each
quite distinct and incredibly beautiful. Clean air, no traffic lights,
no rush hour - what more could you want? Great job benefits? We have
those too. Visit our homepage and links
to other sites for more convincing evidence.
Each person, employee and vote counts here because we are so small.
There are a variety of opportunities and each is an important part
of the county structure. We're looking for people who love our county's
beauty and lifestyle and want to contribute to county government in
a meaningful way. Your professional skills and experience will contribute
to our goal of providing excellent public service.
Job Opportunities
One of the many ways in which Sierra County government is unique
is that there is no central personnel office. Each county department
handles its own employment process. Employment applications should
be sent directly to the department in the job announcement. If you
are interested in having an application on file for future openings,
send it to the office address listed on the Department
Directory page.
The employment application must be received in the office by 5 p.m.
on the deadline date. Postmarks can NOT be accepted for consideration.
The completed application is required and you are welcome to attach
a resume. Faxed/emailed applications or resumes will not be considered
complete as an original application is required. (SCC 3.03.020)

County Benefits for Permanent Employees
Retirement contribution: The county participates in the
Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). The county pays the employee's
contribution to PERS, not to exceed eight percent (8%) of the employee's
gross pay plus the county's share of such contribution. The current
PERS contract uses the 2.7% at 55 formula for computing retirement
benefits for all non-safety personnel. Safety employees:
The County pays the safety employee's contribution to PERS, not
to exceed nine percent of the employee's gross pay, plus the County's
share of such contribution. The current PERS safety contract uses
the 3% at 55 formula for Sheriff's Deputies and sworn Probation
Officers. The County also participates in the federal social security
system.
Life insurance: Effective January 1, 2009, the county
provides $50,000 term life insurance policy for permanent employees,
department managers and members of the Board of Supervisors.
Medical plan: The County participates in a Health Savings
Account. The County contributes $987 per month toward medical, dental
and vision coverage and any excess which is not needed for health
insurance is deposited into the employee's HSA. The employee
may contribute pre-tax up to the IRS maximum.
Optional benefits: The county also has employee-paid options
available: two deferred compensation plans, cancer and intensive
care insurance.
Note: For permanent part-time employees who work a minimum
of 50% time, the county contributes a prorated share of the benefits
based on hours worked.
