The District Attorney of Sierra County is the lawyer for the people, a non-partisan official who is elected every four years. Within California, the position of district attorney is created by the State Constitution and is mandated to be elected as a countywide office.
It is the mission of the Sierra County District Attorney to represent the interests of the people in the criminal justice system, as mandated by California State law. The Sierra County District Attorney serves the residents of Sierra County by: seeking the truth; protecting the innocent; holding the guilty accountable; preserving the dignity of victims and their families; and, ensuring that justice is done while always maintaining the highest ethical standards.
The office of the Public Administrator is responsible for conducting the County investigation into conservatorship matters. If appointed, the Public Guardian acts as conservator for those found by the Superior Court to be unable to properly care for themselves or their finances. The Superior Court may appoint the Public Administrator as conservator of the person, conservator of the estate or both conservator of person and estate.
Larry Allen was elected District Attorney/Public Administrator of Sierra County on March 5, 2002 and took the oath of office as the County's 37th District Attorney on January 6, 2003.
