PROPERTY TAX SCAM
Many property owners throughout the State are receiving an official looking document in the mail regarding a fee-based service to have their property's taxable value reduced. While the document appears to be from a government agency, it is not. The California Attorney General has posted warnings to California property owners on their website about the practices of these companies. For more information about the consumer alert's, please visit the California Attorney General's website.
It is important to know that no California Assessor's Office charges to review propety value; this is a free service. At this time, the Sierra County Assessor's Office is proactively reviewing property values throughout the county, and will be reducing assessments where appropriate.
Property owners who believe that the current market value of their property may be less than the assessed value can request a free decline-in-value review by the Assessor's Office by calling (530) 289-3283.
