H1N1 Flu Vaccine
The Sierra County Health Department currently has a limited number of H1N1 flu vaccine for those high-risk groups identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which include:
Pregnant women
Persons who live with or provide care for children younger than 6 months (e.g., parents, siblings, and daycare providers)
Health-care and emergency medical services personnel who have direct contact with patients or infectious material
Children 2 years through young adults 24 years of age
Persons aged 25--64 years who have medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications
Prioritization will be made according to these high-risk groups, and you may be placed on a waiting list accordingly. The H1N1 vaccine will be offered to the general public after the demand from high-risk groups has been met and more supplies are available. Please contact the Sierra County Health Department at 530-993-6700 for further information and to schedule an appointment, if appropriate.
CDC Flu Vaccine Video Information
CDC invites you to view a short video on CDC’s YouTube channel about the flu vaccine manufacturing process. This video was developed to help explain how flu vaccines are made, why manufacturing and shipping vaccine take so long, and how consumers can find flu vaccines near them. A flu vaccine is the single best way to protect against influenza illness. This fall, there is a seasonal flu vaccine to protect against seasonal flu viruses and a 2009 H1N1 vaccine to protect against the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus (sometimes called "swine flu").
